A hotel built for the Antarctica trip

Each of the 150 rooms at Silversea's new hotel was built in Mendoza, Argentina, using modular construction. [1] If you are booked on an Antarctica Fly Cruise, the hotel is now where your trip starts and ends. [2]

The hotel opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 5. [2] Silversea is owned and operated by Royal Caribbean Group. [2]

How the old arrangement worked

Before the hotel opened, Silversea fly-cruise passengers stayed in non-Silversea hotels in Punta Arenas, Chile, ahead of a charter flight to King George Island. [3] That arrangement left guests booked across various hotels. [3]

When bad weather delayed or grounded flights to Antarctica, the line scrambled for extra rooms. [3] Silversea president Bert Hernandez said the hotel was opened to make the journey to Antarctica easier and more comfortable for guests. [1]

What happens at the hotel

The hotel is the new gateway to Silversea's Antarctica Fly Cruise program, and guests stay at The Cormorant before and after their voyage. [2] There they can try on or swap their Silversea-provided Antarctica polar gear, and complete the biosecurity checks required before visiting the continent. [3]

From there, guests take a charter flight across the Drake to King George Island, where their expedition ship awaits. [3] On return, they spend another night at the hotel before flying back to Santiago. [3]

Inside and around the property

The Fireplace offers plush seating and expansive windows overlooking Patagonia. [1] Three large-scale works by Chilean artists anchor the hotel's interiors. [2]

Guests can kayak the Beagle Channel, hike the shoreline trails of Seno Lauta, and explore on horseback. [1] The hotel is staffed by a team trained through The Silversea Way, Silversea's service culture. [1]

Where the hotel came from

The hotel was initially conceived in 2018 as a turnaround hub for Antarctica. [3] It was developed in partnership with a consortium of Chilean investors. [2]

What it means for you

Through March 2027, Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind, and Silver Cloud will operate 40 voyages, including 29 Antarctica Fly Cruise voyages, each featuring a stay at the hotel. [2] If you book one of those fly-cruise voyages, you stay at The Cormorant before and after your voyage. [2]

The season's itineraries range from six to 21 nights and extend beyond the Antarctic Peninsula to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. [2] At the hotel you can try on or swap your polar gear and complete the biosecurity checks required before visiting the continent. [3]
