Citi Strata Elite vs Atmos Rewards Summit: which premium travel card earns its annual fee?
After a year with both cards, the author explains what each one costs, what it pays back and how hard the Atmos card is to get.

Two cards, one year of testing
The Atmos Rewards Summit card comes with a 25K Global Companion Award on each account anniversary for all cardholders, and the author says that award plus waived partner award booking fees more than justify the annual fee for them. [1][2] If you collect travel points and are weighing a premium card, this comparison is for you.
The Citi Strata Elite card arrived in July 2025, and the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite card followed in August 2025. [3] The author applied for both around the same time and spent the past year testing them. [3]
What the Citi Strata Elite costs and earns
The Citi Strata Elite has a $595 annual fee and earns Citi ThankYou Points. [3] Eligible cardholders can transfer those points to American Airlines and other travel partners. [3]
The welcome offer is 75,000 bonus points after you spend $6,000 in the first 3 months of account opening. [3]
The card earns 12 points per $1 on hotels, car rentals and attractions booked on cititravel.com, and 6 points per $1 on air travel booked there. [3] At restaurants it earns 6 points per $1 during CitiNights, which run Friday and Saturday from 6 PM to 6 AM ET, and 3 points per $1 at other times. [3]
Credits and lounge access on the Citi card
The card includes up to a $300 annual hotel benefit for stays of two nights or more booked through cititravel.com. [3] It also includes up to $200 in annual Blacklane credit, split into $100 from January through June and $100 from July through December. [3]
For airport lounges, you get Priority Pass Select membership and 4 American Airlines Admirals Club passes per calendar year. [3]
What the Atmos Rewards Summit costs and pays back
The Atmos Rewards Summit card carries a $395 annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. [1] The late payment fee is up to $40. [1] Bank of America issues the card. [2]
The welcome offer is 100,000 points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award after you spend $6,000 or more within the first 90 days of account opening. [3] The one-time promotion applies only to customers opening a new account in response to the offer, not to conversions of existing accounts. [2]
The card provides a 100,000-point Global Companion Award after $60,000 or more in purchases in a card anniversary year. [3] Holders of an eligible Bank of America account get a 10% rewards bonus on points earned from card purchases. [3]
Status, fees and award prices
The card gives 10,000 status points each year and 1 status point for every $2 of card spend. [3] The author switched from American AAdvantage to Atmos Rewards and has earned Platinum status, with Titanium under consideration. [2]
Atmos Rewards partner award booking normally costs $12.50 per person each way, and the card waives this fee. [1] Short-haul partner award flights within the Americas (under 700 miles) start at 4,500 points each way. [1]
The card also includes a $50 travel delay credit when an eligible flight is canceled or delayed by two hours or more. [1] A $120 airport security credit covers TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fees once every four years. [1]
Getting approved
Two rules shape the application. The Bank of America 2/3/4 rule limits applicants to two Bank of America cards every two months, three every 12 months, and four every 24 months. [2] The 3/12 rule means you may not be approved if you have opened three or more new cards with any issuer in the past 12 months. [2]
The author opened more than three new cards in the 12 months before applying and was still approved. [2] They applied for the Atmos card when it launched and were instantly approved with a large credit line. [2]
Eligibility for the Atmos card is unrelated to holding other Bank of America, Atmos Rewards, Alaska, or Hawaiian cards. [2]
What this means for you
The Atmos card has a $395 annual fee, against $595 for the Citi card. [1][3] If you book hotels, car rentals and attractions through cititravel.com, the Citi card earns 12 points per $1 there. [3]
Before you apply for the Atmos card, check the 2/3/4 and 3/12 rules, and note that the welcome promotion excludes conversions of existing accounts. [2] Both welcome offers require $6,000 in spending, within 3 months for Citi and within 90 days for Atmos. [3]
